Tell your Congressperson to take the H.R. 40 Systemic Equality Oath!

H.R. 40 will come to a House vote soon after 30-plus years of first being introduced in Congress. This critical legislation would establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, its legacy, and make recommendations for reparations to Congress. Now is the time to pass H.R. 40 and make history.

We can make reparations for slavery a reality by using the current momentum to build even more Congressional support for H.R. 40. We can also use this opportunity to ask our representatives to commit to ending white supremacy in our institutions, from housing to elections and beyond. Ask your representative to take the Systemic Equality Oath.

The Systemic Equality Oath:

I recognize the existence of systemic racism, denounce white supremacy in our institutions, and pledge to support the passage of H.R. 40 –– historic legislation that will establish a commission to examine the legacy of slavery and make recommendations for reparatory justice.

  • If your representative is already a co-sponsor for H.R. 40, thank them for being on the right side of history and ask them to take the Systemic Equality Oath to publicly commit to ending white supremacy in every institution.
  • If your representative is likely to support H.R. 40 but is not already a co-sponsor, ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 40 and take the Systemic Equality Oath to publicly commit to ending white supremacy in every institution.
  • If your representative is unlikely to support H.R. 40, use this opportunity to educate them on the impact of slavery and, ask them to take the Systemic Equality Oath to publicly commit to ending white supremacy in every institutions.
