Here’s what you need to know about the ACLU Resistance Training on March 11.
On March 11, the ACLU will host “The Resistance Training: An ACLU Town Hall” in Miami, Florida, the main event to launch its grassroots organizing platform, People Power. There will be volunteer-led Action Events taking place in all 50 states on the same day to watch the livestream of the Resistance Training and put local action plans in place.
The Resistance Training will begin at 5pm ET and feature:
- A welcome from ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero
- Lee Rowland, ACLU Senior Staff Attorney, on “Know Your Rights” and First Amendment rights of protesters
- Louise Melling, ACLU Deputy Legal Director, on Planned Parenthood defunding and Affordable Care Act repeal
- Andre Segura, Staff Attorney with the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, on immigration-related issues, including the Muslim and refugee ban, deportation raids, sanctuary cities
- A live musical performance and an appearance by a guest celebrity
- A national call-to-action to empower local communities to defend their civil liberties
What is People Power?
The ACLU has a growing army of people who want to become more active in supporting our campaigns to resist the Trump administration’s attacks on our civil liberties and to defend our Constitution. People are eager to resist deportation raids, oppose Trump’s Muslim Ban and defend Planned Parenthood. They want to join the fight. That’s why we created the People Power platform.
People Power is, at its core, a grassroots member-mobilization program. Through People Power, the ACLU will engage volunteers across the country to take action when Trump or his administration attempt to enact unconstitutional policies or trample on people’s constitutional rights. By mobilizing in defense of our civil liberties, volunteers will build local communities that affirm our American values of respect, equality, and solidarity.
People Power will partner with existing organizations and groups who are currently leading wonderful collective actions, to build upon the tremendous energy of the current moment.
The ACLU will continue to challenge President Trump’s unconstitutional actions in court and with People Power, we will take that fight to the streets.
