Wyoming is closer than ever to ending the death penalty – but we need your help. This session, the legislature has the opportunity to repeal the death penalty. With the Governor’s support, we have the chance to move key legislators to support and prioritize this legislation.
The death penalty is racist: In Wyoming, people of color make up 16 percent of the population, yet account for over 43 percent of capital cases in the state.
The death penalty is a waste of money: The state of Wyoming spends nearly $1 million every year on the death penalty even if there are no executions that year.
The death penalty is tragically irreversible: Since 1973, over 170 people have been exonerated of the charges which put them on death row. It is a certainty that other innocent people were not exonerated and have been executed.
Now, we are working with legislators on both sides of the aisle who agree that it’s time to end this injustice against people’s lives and unbearable strain on our state budget - legislators who will prioritize repealing the death penalty in early 2021.
But it cannot happen without your help!
We are asking for you to sign this pledge and join the movement to end the death penalty. In the weeks leading up to the 2021 Legislative Session, you will get an email with actions you can take that week to help make repeal a reality for Wyoming. It’s critical to take action now so we can continue to bring attention to this issue and get commitments from our legislators.
